The minister explained that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however stressed that safety is a concern in all modern vehicles.
We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified level in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of eavesdropping that exist in all automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about security.
When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”
